Pr. Thomas Ebbesen will be leading for the year 2017-2018 the Chaire d’Innovation technologique Liliane Bettencourt in Collège de France, intended to highlight the importance of research works dedicated to technological innovations. Double defense, double departure… recently two of our phDs left the lab. Dr Hadi Bahsoun finished his contract at the end of September and he is presently looking for a position. Dr Thibault Chervy started a postdoc last week in ETH Zürich, in the Quantum Photonics group headed by Pr Atac Imamoglu.
We wish them good luck for the future !
We are pleased to announce for next week a mini-symposium on light-matter strong coupling with three seminars given by members of the phD jurys of Hadi Bahsoun and Thibault Chervy : Prof. Jaime Gomez Rivas, Prof. Angel Rubio and Prof. Atac Imamoglu.
This mini-symposium will take place in the conference room of ISIS, on Friday 15th of September from 9pm. For the detailed program, see here below :
The day before, on Thursday 14th at 2pm, Hadi Bahsoun will defend his PhD thesis entitled Strong Coupling of Electronic Transitions of Molecular Materials in the Liquid Phase
Then on Friday 15th at 2pm, it will be the turn of Thibault Chervy, whose work is entitled Strong coupling regime of cavity quantum electrodynamics and its consequences on molecules and materials
These works have been done under the supervision Prof. T.W. Ebbesen and in both cases, a small reception will follow the defense at the 6th floor of ISIS.
Our dear friend and colleague Jino George has eventually left after five years and a half spent among us, a long period while we had time to create strong links together. He contributed a lot to the work done in the lab, while building a nice family with his wife. Now Jino has obtained a great position in India at the chemistry department of IISER Mohali (Chandigarh, Penjab) where he just started a new group. Congratulations and good luck Jino !

In the context of ICP conference that was held in Strasbourg this week, we had the pleasure to meet Pr. Prashant Kamat and Pr. George Thomas and their wifes. We thank them for their visit of our lab and for the nice time spent together !
And as you can see on the picture, James Hutchison was also back for the ICP !
We have the pleasure to welcome two new post-doctoral researchers in our group since the 1st of July : Marcus Seidel and Kalaivanan Nagajaran.
Kalaivanan is coming from Kerala, India, and did his phD in the School of Chemistry of the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research of Thiruvananthapuram on the “Strategies to Access Triplet Excited State in Core-Twisted Perylenediimides”, under the supervision of Dr. Mahesh Hariharan.
Marcus is coming from Germany and the topic of his phD work was the development of high power femtosecond thin-disk laser, where his research was focused on pulse compression, carrier-envelope-phase stabilization and broadband mid-infrared generation. It has been prepared in the Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, in the group of Pr. Ferenc Krausz.
Morevover, Ming-Hao Li, who was with us for a Master 2 training, will stay in the lab and continue for a phD as he received a grant from the Ecole Doctorale de Chimie. Congratulations to him !
Xiaolan Zhong, who has been working in our group as a postdoc for three years and a half is leaving us this week. She has obtained an assistant professor position at Beihang University in Beijing and we wish her good luck for the future !
James Hutchison, our dear bloody fair dinkum aussie mate, is leaving today for a 18 months secondment in Melbourne University, we wish him good luck there !
Since three weeks and for the next months, we are welcoming two master 2 students in the team, Elias Akiki, from Lebanon and Minghao Li, from China.
Gabriel Schnoering, who defended a few months ago, left the lab last month and just started a week ago his new position, at the Physikalisches Institut in Stuttgart University.
We wish him and his family all the best !
